Home Schoolers
While I really enjoyed teaching the third graders in farmcraft, I enjoyed teaching WBY to the home schoolers even more. I think that its that WBY program offers the students more opportunity to do more and be active the whole way through the day with each station. I also think that WBY offers more chance for inquiry around what they are doing. However, all in all I really enjoyed the WBY program a lot more, but farmcraft is fun as well. I keep hoping that I keep getting good groups of students that challenge me as an educator and force me to look up things that I might not know about insects or farm life. I really now see how teaching is more of a two way street with both teaching and learning going on at the same time.

I too, totally loved the WBY program for the Homeschoolers. I think it definitely let students explore and be "IN" nature. They were so excited... I was all smiles! Teaching is fun... Even farmcraft - the little ones are so bright and inquisitive. I am glad farmcraft has an active involvement piece to it. Makes it that much more concrete for kids, to be involved.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting that you two enjoyed WBY more that FC, because I felt the total opposite! I'm not sure if that is a product of my personal comfort level (and therefore preferring the more clearly structured program) or simply a contrast of teaching styles. Either way I think it's a good thing. Diversity of skills is what allows us to have people that excel at different tasks!
ReplyDeleteIn reading our posts comparing the WBY and farm craft I see that there are some differing opinions regarding our comfort levels and whether we like more structure or more free form. I like both for different reasons. I would love to have a brainstorming activity regarding the WBY program. We've had some good ideas, like Sarah's suggestion of ending with a group drawing session and I think pulling our ideas together could help those of us who might want more structure feel more comfortable with it.
