Farmcraft and the Bog sounds so cool. I love it when we get to experience the custom programs. It seems like the perfect costumer service piece, and, it helps us staff(ish) keep excited and engaged.
I was in farmcraft on Friday and it was a gloomy gray day but the rain held off and we were able to do the hayride. It had been gloomy for a few days and most of us were feeling it and had some discussion of how it might be affecting our moods. Despite that we learned that it is possible to generate enthusiasm for teaching even when you are feeling a little lackluster. A great lesson I think. The kids, second graders, were certainly a different kind of energy. I see very distinct differences with each age group. By second grade they are feeling pretty darned independent. I made my tiny goal for the day to concentrate on learning more than one or two names. I have trouble with short term memory especially when I am nervous so it make learning names rather difficult. I concentrated on those who didn't have name tags or who had covered theirs and boy did it make a difference being able to call them by name. Using a name as soon as I could and repeatedly I found out is really key. If you mess up, the kids have fun letting you know you called them by the right name. Practice, practice, practice. That's what it is all about.
