teaching and missing teaching

I was disappointed to miss both of my Rock Cycles. Today I have Autumn Adventures, and will enjoy it, having had a delightful one last week.
I was on farmcraft last Friday. It was a nice group of 2nd graders. Very interesting how different one group is from another. This was Friday. Perhaps we were all tired. It was a sunny day that followed 3 days of heavy rain. I thought behavior could be all oveer the map. Instead, my group was attentive, quiet, even. And it was a gentle meander around the farmstead. Jason coordinated, and I felt like I had plenty of time for everything, no hurries, no worries. But I didn't feel that there was a lot of excitement. Perhaps this is the difference betweeen 2nd grade and Kindergarten...or some other variable. I thought later how much I like to see their excitement. This is, I think, how I judge my success.

  1. I too felt like there was no rush and was trying to fill time.

  2. I didn't mention it to anyone at the time, but there were a few times where I tried to keep track of where everyone was at various stations and gave an extra minute if I felt it was needed. The group itself seemed to have a little time to spare, so I worked with it. I didn't want to hold the shift too long, but I figured one minute bonuses could be valued.

  3. It is a huge difference between age groups the older they get. I like them all but for different reasons. I enjoy seeing your excitement Sara when you are with kids. You seem to be having as much fun as they are. I remember that day and we seemed to all be dragging a little from the weather but I think we summoned enthusiasm for the day and for the kids. I think that is a sign of professionalism in any job whether you are dealing with kids or not.
