On Friday we all observed the Rock Cycle lesson. I am teaching it 2x this upcoming week and I will admit to being bit nervous about it. So far I have only taught Farmcraft and it started to feel familar very quick. A large part of me would really love to teach something new, fresh, and challenging. I need a change before bordom sets in. However changing gears is never easy. Frankly I am nervous. What if I get lost? I dont really know what to talk to them about. I dont REALLY understand the geology of ML.
Things like this are always so hard for me. I know what I need to do and what is best for me, but there is something inside of me that resists. It is a bit disfunctional really. Want to go ahead and just start teachng it so the fear of the unknown goes away. The same things that excite me about teaching somthing new are also the same things that scare me a little bit. I will just play it cool and pretend to know what is going on like always and hope that people are fooled.

Carli, I think the best thing you can do is just to look over that curriculum and be as prepared as possible. As always, don't be afraid to say, "I don't know, that's a great question!" I must admit that I am sharing some of your feelings of nervousness, though. I am teaching Autumn Adventures for the first time tomorrow. Not only that, but it's a custom program. Not only that, but DaveO's son, Sam will be there! Talk about pressure. I mean, I'm sure I'll do fine, as will you. I suppose a large part of it is just confidence. Even if you're not completely confident on the inside, appear confident on the outside!
ReplyDeleteTom, great advice to Carli - appear confident even if you're not.
ReplyDeleteIf Sam's there, I'm sure DaveO will be there too, plus evaluations...No Pressure!
While I am only teaching one Rock cycle. I must admit that I share your concerns. I am not nervous about getting lost, but I do wonder about what I am supposed to try and cover. Farm craft is much more structured, something that I personally find appealing. It also makes me nervous that the groups are much larger that typically in farm craft, perhaps making it more difficult to connect with all the groups.
ReplyDeleteHey Carli, I too have been nervous about the Rock Cycle program as I don't feel as comfortable with the information and I took a little time to help myself out on it. Because I am such a visual person, often I do not have a good grasp on something just by reading it, even if I read it over and over. I found a great little website called RockCycleInteractive that has little quizzes and games related to the rock cycle. Pretty cool. My ten year old nephew would be proud. It was helpful.
